Hey 👋🏾 I recently read this baby for the #LOPRReadathon and I can safely say TDJ always delivers.
Firstly, you can always count on TDJ to write the hard hitting truths about what’s going on in the world. She is a beautiful storyteller, and she does it with such raw passion.
TW: Racism. Colorism. Abuse. Childhood Abandonment. Murder. Death.
My thoughts: Not going to lie. As much I I enjoyed reading the story, I was waiting to be scared the entire time. Did it happen? No, but TDJ has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat with each chapter. You just never know what could happen.
This book is a retelling of the Stephen King novel “Carrie” -> which also wasn’t scary <- (in my opinion 👀) just told in a more modern time. If you could believe that…TDJ did a fantastic job of making this retelling, her own. I can honestly say, I wasn’t thinking about Carrie reading Maddy’s journey.
Things I loved:
-Multiple POVs (point of views)
-The Podcast and interviews (my favorite part)
If you’re a fan of TDJ, you’ll love it! If you’re a fan of Carrie, you’ll love it. Just buy this book!
(might do a full review later)
With much thought, I’ve decided on 4s𝗍ᥲrs✰
❥ With Love, LOP 🙂
